When you do business with Mike’s Septic & McKinley Sewer Services, you can expect to receive top-notch service from our trained professionals at all times. We will guide you through the process of getting the right septic system for your home as necessary. Our team of experts knows a lot about these systems and what needs to be done to help you get the most ideal system for your circumstances.

Choosing the Right Septic Tank Based on Size

You might find that you need to calculate septic tank volume before determining what kind of septic tank sizes you need for your home or business. Knowing what size tank you need is essential, so you don’t order something incorrectly.

For a good rule of thumb regarding the volume, your septic tank will likely need to handle, you should think about the amount of wastewater the unit needs to process in a given day. The minimum amount that you should look for is at least 1,000 gallons per day, or 1.5x the average daily wastewater flow. This will give you a good idea about the volume necessary for your septic tank. It is not that you will necessarily use 1,000 gallons of water per day. It is just that you need the capacity to handle fluctuations in the amount of wastewater.

Tank Size Based on Number of Bedrooms

Another measurement used by some people to determine how large their septic tank should be is based on the number of bedrooms in their home. This is another useful way to determine how much capacity will be required from the septic tank. The breakdown goes something like this:

  • 1-3 bedrooms: 1,000 gallons
  • 4 bedrooms: 1,200 gallons
  • 5 bedrooms: 1,500 gallons
  • 6 bedrooms: 1,750 gallons

It goes on from there, but most people don’t have more than six bedrooms. This gives you a good idea of how much capacity you need to include in your home. You don’t want to miscalculate the amount of capacity that you need from your septic tank, and you don’t want to get something that can’t take on all the usage that you need to get out of it.

If you estimate your usage ahead of time, you should be able to get reasonably accurate figures that help you determine how large of a septic tank you will require. It is all about drawing the right conclusions based on the specific needs of your home.

People have dealt with septic tanks for years, and it is always about getting their figures in order, so they have the kind of capacity that they need to get the job done right.
