What Plants Are Best To Plant Around Septic Tank?

Here at Mike’s Septic Service, we help customers with any and all questions that they may have about their septic tanks. Interestingly, one of the questions we frequently hear is about which plants are best to plant around septic tanks. This is a reasonable question to ask, and we seek to help all customers with questions about which plants are safe to have near a septic tank and other similar questions.

Beautifying Your Septic Field

One of the things that is worthy of consideration when trying to make your septic field look better is the types of plants you can grow around it. You may have heard in the past that certain types of plants can harm your septic system because they grow their roots out under the system and cause damage to it in that way.

Indeed, it is possible that you could run into certain issues like that with some types of plants. However, you should be aware of the fact that much of this has been overblown. You shouldn’t get too paranoid about causing damage to your septic system because of the roots from plants that you grow near it. In fact, plants can help prevent soil erosion around the septic tank area, which can create better conditions for your septic tank in general.

Septic Tank and Drain Field Grasses

Perhaps the best option out there for you is drain field grass. These types of grasses are small non-woody ground covers that can be highly useful for keeping your septic tank system safe.

The use of these types of grasses may prove to be extremely helpful in both making the area around your septic tank more beautiful and also working on creating a safe environment for your septic tank system.

Obviously, you want to both keep the septic tank safe while also growing plants around it that provide a sense of beauty to you. Both of those objectives can be accomplished if you set your mind to it. You just need to remember that the bottom line for most people is that they need something that won’t damage their septic tank. Otherwise, they are potentially putting themselves at risk of creating a scenario where they spend a significant amount of money to repair it.

Simply take a few moments to look into the types of plants that are appropriate for planting around a septic tank before you get started on it. You don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself and just start planting things. However, you will want to make some strides toward creating a beautiful environment around your septic tank. You can do both if you just focus on learning all that you can about how the system works.
