How To Clean a Clogged Septic Drain

Having a septic system in a home is common for property owners in many parts of the country. If you have a septic system instead of a public sewer system, the way you maintain and repair issues can vary from other types of drainage and sewer systems. One common issue that anyone can face is a clog. When there are clogs, it could cause sinks to drain more slowly, and it should be cleaned as soon as possible. When you clean out your septic drain, there are various tips to follow.

Start With Hot Water

One of the ways that you can unclog your septic drain is by pouring hot water down the drain. In many cases, a clog in a drain is due to small particles that are stuck and cannot come out due to standard water flow. In these situations, pouring a lot of hot water down the drain can go a long way. You can do this by boiling a couple pots of water and pouring it down. In many cases, this will help to unclog items that are stuck.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

If the hot water is not enough, you can also consider using baking soda and vinegar. Anyone that has mixed these two elements together will know that they can create a hard fizzing sensation that is able to clear out some clogged items in a drain.

Drain Cleaner

Another effective tool that you can use is to pour septic-safe drain cleaners down the drain. These drain cleaners are very effective and can help break apart items stuck in the drain. This allows the items to cleanly pour through your drain with water. You must ensure that the cleaners you use are safe for septic systems. Those that are not designed for septic systems could cause damage in the future.

Manually Clean

Another option is to hire a plumber to have it cleaned out manually. If there is a deep and large clog, you could hire a plumber to use a snake that will go through the drain pipes. They could then identify what is causing the clog and either remove a part of a pipe or use a different system to break apart the clogs.

If you have a clog in your septic system, it is important to have it cleaned out as soon as possible. Cleaning out clogs can help to clear up the system and help you avoid more serious problems in the future. Following these tips can help ensure that you can safely clean your septic system if you do experience a clog.
